Geography teachers in Alūksne, Latvia learn about Destination Europe

On Monday, 18 August, representatives of the European Migration Network (EMN) Latvia participated in the annual regional conference of the Latvian Geographical Society in Alūksne. The event brought together geography teachers, researchers and other interested parties to discuss the latest trends in geography teaching and current issues in regional research.

During the conference, representatives of EMN Latvia explained how to use the educational tool “Destination Europe” in the classroom. The learning tool is based on roleplay and helps students learn about migration processes, understand their causes and consequences, and make decisions by evaluating different points of view. Destination Europe promotes critical thinking, the ability to argue one’s point of view, and encourages discussion, while enriching the learning process with a practical and interactive approach.

Geography teachers welcomed the opportunity to learn about a new teaching resource that would help students learn about migration as a global phenomenon in an understandable and engaging way. EMN Latvia will continue to work with teachers and educational institutions to promote the availability of high-quality, modern teaching materials in Latvian schools. In this context, EMN Latvia is actively distributing copies of Destination Europe to teachers.
