Erasmus students in Levice, Slovakia explore migration decision-making in international groups

On 3 March and 17 March 2026, Erasmus students at Gymnázium Andreja Vrábla in Levice participated in Destination Europe workshops organised within the activities of EMN Slovakia. A total of 60 students from Slovakia, Germany and Spain took part in the interactive sessions, working in international groups and engaging in discussions on migration policies.

By using the role-playing tool, students stepped into the shoes of policymakers and other key stakeholders involved in migration governance. They were tasked with responding to different migration-related challenges, presenting their positions and negotiating solutions. The activity demonstrated how complex decision-making can be, as students had to balance diverse interests, priorities and expected impacts across different levels.

Working in international groups brought an added dimension to the discussions. Students exchanged perspectives shaped by their different backgrounds, which encouraged open dialogue, cooperation and mutual understanding. At the same time, they developed practical skills such as communication, negotiation and teamwork.

The Destination Europe workshops helped participants to better understand how migration policies are shaped and why reaching agreements is often challenging. By experiencing the decision-making process first-hand, students gained insight into the trade-offs involved and the importance of collaboration when addressing complex societal issues.
