On 30 June 2025, EMN Luxembourg held two workshops featuring the interactive learning tool Destination Europe at the Gymnasium am Rothenbühl in Saarbrücken, as part of their “Europe-Day” celebrations. EMN Luxembourg had the pleasure of being part of this project day for the second year in a row, after organising similar workshops in 2024.
Across two 90-minute workshops, 28 students, all aged between 15 and 17, encountered several migration scenarios and were asked to step into the shoes of different stakeholders. Following a brief introductory session, the students immersed themselves in the Destination Europe experience, which allowed them to gain insight into the complexities of migration policymaking and to approach the topic from multiple perspectives.
Students showed particular interest in issues such as the regularisation of migrants in irregular situations, differences among migrant groups and the safe third country concept.
Overall, students responded very positively to the experience, while some noted that a certain amount of time was needed to fully grasp the different elements of the learning tool. Introducing a role-playing activity such as Destination Europe demonstrated that exploring migration in an interactive and immersive format enables a comprehensive understanding of its many dimensions.
