During the 30th Action Week Against Racism in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, more than 100 partners organised activities and workshops to fight against racism, xenophobia and intolerance. The NGO La Roulotte des Mots, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), coordinated an awareness raising day on migration held at the Hôtel de Ville in Neuchâtel on 10 April 2025.
The day began with a presentation by IOM experts, offering insights into global and local migration dynamics and explaining the work of IOM. Participants then took part in a series of interactive activities designed to explore migration as both a political issue and a personal journey.
During one of these activities, the 12 participants aged 17-24, where introduced to the Destination Europe learning tool. In two groups, participants assumed the roles of decision-makers, navigating the complexity of migration journeys and the often-conflicting factors that influence them. Participants were engaged in lively discussions and taking on the roles of different stakeholders allowed them to think about various challenges related to migration and integration.
The accompanying teacher was impressed by the active engagement of the students and requested an additional copy of the tool to hold further sessions in other educational settings.
In the afternoon, a guided tour of the photo exhibition “Migration – Looking Forward, Reflecting Back” by Reuters photojournalist Darrin Zammit Lupi added a powerful visual layer, prompting emotional reactions and thoughtful discussions. The day concluded with a presentation on biodiversity by La Roulotte des Mots and a creative workshop titled “My earth: what connects us”.
