Employees of the Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family in Bratislava deepen their understanding of migration

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), as coordinator of the European Migration Network (EMN) in Slovakia, conducted a lecture on migration followed by a Destination Europe workshop for 22 employees of the Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family Bratislava. This session took place on 27 February 2025 in Bratislava, providing participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the topic of migration and related decision-making processes.

The event began with an introductory lecture consisting of an overview of migration, the relevant terminology, global trends, and the significance of migration for Slovakia and the broader European context. Participants gained insights into different types of migration, including voluntary, forced, internal, and international migration, as well as the role of migration policies at national and EU levels.

Following the lecture, participants took part in a Destination Europe workshop, assuming roles of various stakeholders, such as government officials, local representatives, and members of non-governmental organisations. Through guided discussions and negotiations, participants navigated migration-related scenarios, gaining practical experience of the complexities involved in decision-making processes.

Participants particularly valued the interactive format of the workshop, emphasizing that the activity effectively demonstrated the complexity and interconnectedness of migration-related decisions. They highlighted how the workshop reinforced their awareness of the multiple perspectives and diverse factors that play crucial roles in shaping migration policies.
