On 6 February 2025, EMN Luxembourg organized a third Destination Europe training for high school teachers, since the launch of this initiative in February of 2024.
The course, offered to all persons working in the Luxembourgish education sector with high school teachers being the specific target group, was held at and in collaboration with the National Education Training Institute (IFEN) in Walferdange. The aim of the training is to emphasize the importance of migration, asylum and integration in the educational context and present an interactive way of incorporating those topics in the classroom.
Over 3 hours, 6 high school teachers from different fields such as Geography, Sociology and Citizenship Education (EDCIT) were first introduced to the European Migration Network, before learning about the interactive learning tool “Destination Europe” and testing it themselves.
Teachers were presented with various options for integrating the learning tool into their course, either as a one-off learning experience or over several lessons. (More details can be found in the “Background material for Educators”). After diving into the complexities of migration decision-making and taking on different roles of stakeholders at the European, national and city level, participants were asked to reflect on the tool and brainstorm ideas for its implementation.
