EMN France collaborated with the Académie Notre Europe

On 14 February 2025, EMN France took part in the 8th “A Europe of migration and human rights” conference organised by the Académie Notre Europe.

During the introduction, students were able to test their knowledge of key figures on asylum and migration in the EU+ and France. These statistical data, presented in the form of a quiz, were used by the students in the debates of the Destination Europe session that followed. As a result, students were able to:

  • understand the challenges and opportunities of migration, asylum and integration policies

  • understand the intricacies of decision-making processes on these subjects at EU, national and local levels

  • reflect on the potential impact of decisions taken on different people in migration situations, on their journeys and on the public opinion.

The participants especially appreciated the role-playing aspect of the tool. Trying to embody positions that they found difficult to defend was particularly interesting because it enabled them to understand how migration can be instrumentalised in public debate.

Some participants stressed the difficulty of building a rich and productive discussion in a short period of time and regretted that the solutions proposed were a little too ‘simplistic’.

At the end of the presentation, 85% of the participants wanted to learn more about migration, and in particular about human rights violations, economic benefits of migration, instrumentalisation of the debates on migration, the legal framework in place and the different statuses.
